Carbon fibre buckle arrestors for offshore pipelines

Feasibility and efficiency of using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) buckle arrestors in steel offshore pipelines with D/t 28 40 are investigated hyperbaric chamber tests. CFRP manufactured Prepreg (PP), Wet-Layup (WL) Vacuum Bagging (VB) curing methods, coarse fine sand surface preparations. A parametric study is performed that outlines the performance various geometric configurations. Efficiency different manufacturing methods configurations calculated compared those conventional arrestors. It shown efficiencies vary between 0.74 1.0 for methods. Optimum obtained WL technique, sanding, arrestor thickness twice pipe-wall thickness, fibres oriented hoop direction.
